Remembrance Day

30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall

Throughout the world

00:00 - 23:59

The Berlin wall, which existed from 1961-1989, symbolized the world divided into two spheres by the Cold War: the communist bloc led by the Soviet Union vs. democratic, liberal states. The Berlin wall did not only symbolize the conflict between two worldviews, but also impeded efficiently the free movement of people and separated the German nation. The fall of the wall marked the collapse of the communist bloc and the victory of the values of freedom, democracy and human rights in the Cold War. In 2019 the world celebrates 30 years since the day when this wall failed to separate Europe, and commemorates all victims of this monster, produced by the totalitarian system.
